Detoxifying Soup for Kapha

If you have been tempted with a decadent dessert or a heavy meal and want to come back to your natural lightness, this soup is for you. Do a big pot and eat only this for a day or two. Add more ginger if you want to move some stagnation from your system. Lovely soup as well in the winter season.

The carrot in this recipe contains b-carotene, which will help your vision. Carrots are also rich in vitamin A. The celery in this recipe contains an abundance of vitamins A, C, and K. Celery is a great source of calcium. Turmeric has many benefits - it helps to prevent cancer, is a natural liver detoxifier, a natural antiseptic and helps treat inflammatory skin conditions.

Ingredients for 2 servings:

4-6 cups of filtered/clean water
¼ cup shredded carrot
¼ cup chopped celery (coriander)
½ cup chopped dark greens
6-8 black peppercorns
1-2 thin slices of fresh ginger
1 tsp cumin seeds
¼ tsp turmeric
½ tsp rock salt (optional)

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients in a pot and bring the mixture to a boil. Simmer for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.

Mash the vegetables against the sides of pot with the back of a ladle. Strain and serve hot.
