Chaat masala: spice blend for the health of the heart


When we think of the circulatory system and the heart, we need to think in a few spices: cocoa, cinnamon, fennel, garlic, cardamon, chili, turmeric, amchur, black cumin and marjoram. You can play at home with this spices to keep your heart in shape.


Try however this ancient combination call Chaat masala.
2 tablespoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon black peppercorns
2 teaspoons coriander seeds.
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon ajowan seeds
1 teaspoon aniseed.
1/2 teaspoon dried mint
1 tablespoon amchur ( dry mango)
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon chili

1.- Roast in medium heat the cumin seeds, peppercorns, coriander seeds, ajowan seeds and aniseed until they become lightly browned and fragrant. Turn the seeds frequently as they cook, so they burn.

2.- Put the seeds and the mint spice into a spice grinder and make all in a fine powder. Mix with the rest of the ingredients and store in a air tight container. Use over soups, rice, stir fry or cereals. Great for winter times.
