Our bodies can get weak and out of balance by age, harsh climate, illness or poor lifestyle. So you will be surprised how spices in the Siddha texts give plenty of medicinal formulas to enhance health and longevity.
Here is a recipe called Amukkura churnam; the formula addresses the six tastes as a way to balance any dosha. This mixture cures colic, hiccups, chlorosis, rheumatic diseases, insomnia, excessive internal heat and spermatorrhoea. It also relieves stress and strengthens a weakened nervous system. If the person is already strong, this mixture is an aphrodisiac for men.
Ingredients:
10 grams cloves
20 grams of Cinnamon buds
40 grams of Cardamom Seeds
80 grams of black pepper
160 grams long pepper( Thippli)- find this in Indian stores)
320 grams dry ginger.
640 grams of ashwagandha ( find this in healthful stores)
1280 grams of organic cane sugar.
Process
First, roast the long pepper and then grind together the rest of the spices except the sugar. Powder the sugar separately, then mix the sugar, powdered spices, and ashwagandha. Store the power in a glass jar.
How to use it:
To stimulate and balance vatta dosha:
Mix one or two teaspoons of the powder with one tablespoon of organic sesame oil. Take the preparation on an empty stomach in the morning and the evening. It can be taken one hour before meals or 3 hours after meals. Take it for 11, 22, 33 or 45 days, depending on the symptoms.
To stimulate and balance pitta dosha, replace sesame oil with two teaspoons of ghee.
To stimulate and balance Kapha dosha, use 1-1/2 teaspoon honey.
